The kataba is a backless style of Japanese pull saw designed for deep cuts all the way through a material. It can be used with deep timber sections or sheet materials.

The Shogun OK265FLD Hassunme Kataba is specifically designed for crosscutting (across the grain of the timber). It cuts very fast thanks to its narrow blade and medium fine 16tpi tooth pattern.

This folding version of the saw has the 2 advantages of being more compact for storage and protecting the teeth of the saw if thy might get knocked during transport.

The blade automatically locks out at in the straight position and 30 degrees past straight to give an alternate hand position. A lever press, unlocks the blade to re-fold it.
The non-slip handle is made from a rubberised elastomer to give a comfortable feel.

This product can be paired with OK265RCFLD Rip Cut Saw, to handle all workshop tasks.
Or, since the blade can be swapped out in less than 10 seconds, add the Rip Cut Sawblade only PISOK265RC to use with this handle.

All Shogun Japanese saws have superior cutting teeth:
1) 2-step deep teeth for scraping out wood chips to prevent clogging.
2) Precision ground teeth by diamond Borazon wheel to sharpen the teeth on 3 sides.
3) Electrical-pulse hardened teeth to maintain sharpness up to 3 times longer than conventional saws.

The most noticeable design feature of a Japanese saw is that the teeth are angled backwards towards the handle. When in use, the cutting action is on the pull-stroke hence Japanese saws are often referred to as pull saws. The saw is designed to cut as you draw it through the timber, totally the opposite to a traditional western saw.
